If you like soap operas you're going to love Taboo American Style Part III, where the dealings of the Sutherlands make the Carringtons and the Colbys look like old prudes. While the first two parts introduced the incestuous clan, this third segment goes to even further extremes of incestuous perversities.
Actually, perverse does not adequately describe Nina Sutherland (Raven) when it comes to getting what she wants, both in and out of the bedroom. She seduces her brother (Tom Byron) and his girlfriend (Carol Cross) – one at a time and then together – to protect her relationship with her father (Paul Thomas), which she has nurtured since we first met her. She also interrupts a movie producer and his wife (Joey Silvera and Sarah Bernard) in their bedroom, actually making the wife watch as her husband never misses a stroke, in order to get a screen test for his movie. Raven's screen test and the initiation of an Oedipal love affair between Byron and his paranoid schizophrenic mother (Gloria Leonard) are the two big plot developments during this part.
Once again, director Henri Pachard maintains a smooth flow in character action and dialogue, but sometimes a lapse in audio quality makes it difficult to hear what the cast is saying (thus the lower rating than Taboo American Style Part II). Also, the cast's performance has been consistent through all three parts, a trait which will help cassette renters who may not be able to see each part over a short period of time.
As for the sex, Raven is in control. The raunch becomes even raunchier under her dominating touch as she bends and molds everyone to do her sexual bidding. And the perverted bathtub scene with son Byron and mommie Leonard – who turns in her best scene so far in the series – makes the taboo of incest loom ever darker at Sutherland mansion.
But, will Raven make it as a Hollywood starlet? Will Tim, the mama-jammin' sister-slammin' brother, continue with his incestuous ways? And what about dear old dad? Well, you're just going to have to wait for Taboo American Style, Part IV.
