More Than 150 Enjoy Adult 3D Fare at Stereo Convention

LOVELAND, Colo.—Monday saw the final events of the 37th National Stereoscopic Association () convention, a yearly gathering of 3D photography enthusiasts from around the world which began on July 12 and included excursions to photogenic places like sculpture gardens and a turn-of-the-century (19th, that is) train station meusem, workshops, a trade show, a 3D art exhibit, a "stereo theater" featuring 3D movies and slideshows ... and a late-night "adult theater."

This year's adult theater presenters were divided between fine-art photographers and adult industry offerings, including "Boris Shoots Betty," a slideshow by Virginia-based photographer taking viewers step-by-step through his photo shoot of a model, from her first undressing, through her posing in a bubblebath, to the drying-off; Cecil Stone's "Art Nudes," featuring a pair of ballet dancers sans clothes; veteran stereographer Robert Bloomberg's "Khajuraho Nights," a tour of ancient temple, pyramid and other carvings of sex in the ancient world; Terry Wilson's "3Drotica: In the Eye of the Beholder," with images taken from her foot fetish-oriented that includes such well-known names as Julie Simone, Ava Monroe and Liz Tyler; and this author's "Bringing the Love to Loveland," a selection of 3D images from adult movies such as Revolution X's Star Trek: The Next Generation XXX and Sex Files 2, Hustler Video's This Ain't Avatar XXX 3D, Girlfriends Films' Girls In White 2011, Extreme Comixxx's Supergirl XXX, DreamZone Entertainment's Cops XXX, Bluebird Films' Katwoman XXX, Wicked Pictures' Rocki Whote Picture Show, Reality Junkies' Filthy Family 4 and Office Perverts 7, Sweet Sinema's Fatal Seduction and Masseuse, and Penthouse's as-yet-unreleased Fuck & Tell 3D. All were presented in Polarized 3D on a large screen.

Also on the program were this author's 3D video walk-through of Penthouse Studios' 3D production areas, including some peeks at a Rocco Reed-directed 3D movie starring Capri Cavalli and Tommy Gunn, and a Penthouse promotional 3D video for their European 3D channels which went online this spring.

The adult showings were attended by more than 150 of the convention's approximately 400 attendees.

The trade show also had a few adult offerings, notably the ""—cards with two nearly identical images which become 3D using a special viewer—of Omaha-based veteran photographer Larry Ferguson, erotic stereoviews from the early 1900s offered by several vendors, and a large selection of new and classic 3D books, magazines and comicbooks from 3D company . Also on hand was 's Peter Sinclair, who'll soon be offering lenticular (glasses-free) 3D prints from digital stereo cameras—even hardcore—among his many other 3D-related services.

Convention attendees also heard from many involved in mainstream 3D production, including award-winning 3D artist and technical expert Rob Engle, who predicted that in the near future, mainstream 3D movies will cost the same as their 2D versions at theaters, while Fujifilm representative Jim Calverley, who gave away nearly a dozen of the company's popular digital stereo camera, noted that in exit surveys conducted by major film companies, of films offered in both 2D and 3D, 15 percent more of the attendees at the 3D version said they enjoyed that version better than did attendees of the 2D version.

Two adult companies have announced that they are now shooting exclusively in 3D: Penthouse Studios, which has been filming in 3D for nearly a year, and Hustler Video, which announced earlier this month that it is switching to all-3D production. New Sensations has also released several 3D movies, and other studios are strongly considering adding 3D to their lines.

Next year's will be held July 25-30, 2012 in Costa Mesa, California and sponsored by the LA 3D Club, which holds monthly meetings in Pasadena. For more information on the club and its activities, click .
