CHATSWORTH, Calif.—Topco Sales, in conjunction with Burning Angel Entertainment, has announced its first ever user-generated video competition. The is a unique marketing campaign designed to promote the .
The grand prize is $1,000 in Joanna Angel Burning Angel toys and merchandise. Two winning prizes receive $500 in merchandise, and $800 in prizes goes to the fan favorite.
The contest invites consumers to submit videos to . It does not solicit pornographic content, but instead asks for quirky and irreverent videos.
"We want people to take the doll to the movies,” Joanna Angel said. “We want them to punk their friends: like, hide the doll up in their roommate's bed. Take the doll to a theme park. Or get silly and have a mad tea party with the doll. The bottom line is people should have fun with it! Then they should follow the hash tag on , #BlowJA, to keep current with the contest buzz."
In addition to Twitter, the contest is supported through several major social networking sites. , , and all have profiles driving traffic to the main site, .
The contest is marketed to the consumer in a variety of ways. The product packaging promotes it with an eye-catching sticker on the front. There is a point of sale sign that retailers can hang next to the doll and other Joanna Angel Burning Angel Toys in the store. Plus a web banner is available for ecommerce sites. "We have paid search advertising, a targeted mainstream PR initiative, and event marketing on the agenda, too,” said Desiree Duffie, director of marketing and public relations for Topco Sales. “Distributors and retailers can benefit from this multifaceted campaign by stocking the doll as well as the entire line of Joanna Angel products. We're working hard to drive consumer interest, which will ultimately drive sales."
Burning Angel Entertainment is producing a film that features the doll, too. "Basically the doll takes over my life!" Angel said. "I don't want to give away too much of the plot line, but she magically becomes animated and has a mind of her own ... a very devious mind."
The film will be released in August.
